CMO, Questrom School of Business, Boston University

Paul Alexander is the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for the Questrom School of Business at Boston University.  He reports to the Dean of the Business School, Susan Fournier.  He is responsible for the design, execution and assessment of marketing and communications strategies and plans that build Questrom’s global visibility and brand reputation in support of the Business School’s strategic goals.  Prior to working at Questrom, Paul was the CMO of Eastern Bank based in Boston, Massachusetts. Paul joined Eastern in 2015 and developed and executed marketing, social media, communications, and PR strategies that contributed to three consecutive record profit years for the bank (2017-2019), as well as increases in brand equity and employee engagement via the award-winning “Join Us For Good” campaign. Paul is part of the management team that led Eastern’s successful IPO in October of 2020. (EBC:Nasdaq)

Before Eastern, Paul served as EVP and Chief Communications Officer for Liberty Mutual Insurance (2008-2014), a Fortune 100 global property and casualty insurance company, where he held responsibility for all corporate brand marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, meeting management and event strategy, and major sports sponsorships. Paul set the direction of Liberty Mutual’s marketing strategy, built a high-performing marketing and communications team, and led the negotiations to secure Liberty Mutual’s first-ever global sponsorship for Liberty Seguros, Brazil’s sponsorship of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, as well as Liberty Mutual’s sponsorship of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams and the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Soccer teams.

Paul is currently on the Board of Directors of Skyword, a content marketing software and services company, is a Board member of the Ad Club of Boston, and is also on the Board of Directors of Johnson Outdoors, a leading global innovator of outdoor recreation equipment and technology. He is also on the Executive Committee of the Board of the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), the largest marketing trade association in the U.S., where he serves as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. In 2018, he was selected by GetKonnected as one of the GK100: Boston’s 100 Most Influential People of Color. Active in the community, Paul currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of The Partnership, Incorporated and is on the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston (MFA) and Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC). Paul is also a member of and former Chair of the Trustee Board of Myrtle Baptist Church in West Newton, MA and is Board member Emeritus of Feeding America. Paul earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1987 and his undergraduate degree in government from Harvard College in 1982. He is married to Evelyne Martial and has two adult children, Fay and David.
